Aerobond’s major expansion to access missile markets

Defence and space manufacturer Aerobond has completed its major expansion into a new 3,500 square metre headquarters facility (pictured) which will manufacture launch cannisters for the Kongsberg Naval Strike Missile.

The new facility at Woodville in Adelaide adds to capacity at the company’s 1,500 square metre Adelaide Airport factory and sets the company up to bid for work in precision guided munitions, hypersonic weapons, and integrated air and missile defence systems.

In November, 2023 Aerobond was awarded a $1.67 million federal government Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority Grant for precision guided munitions, hypersonic weapons, and air and missile defence systems.

The Adelaide company will match the federal funds, and has launched the expansion project to allow manufacture at scale, as opposed to prototyping and initial or low-rate production.

Aerobond Founder and Managing Director Justin Struik took to social media to celebrate and said: “Success isn’t a solo journey—it’s built through collaboration with brilliant minds and dedicated teams.

“At Aerobond, we’ve seen this in action over the past 11 months – our incredible team has come together to establish a 35,00 meters square state-of-the-art manufacturing facility right here in South Australia.”

The new facility adds machining capacity and coating capability through installation of larger temperature-controlled paint booths and automated composite filament winding equipment.

The facility will help create another 35 defence roles.

Struik paid tribute to his staff and those who had worked with the company to bring the project to completion.

“Your hard work, expertise, and teamwork have turned a vision into reality.

“With such a remarkable team, the possibilities are endless – we’re excited to see what’s next on the horizon for Aerobond.”
