Graphene Manufacturing Group has announced “full and final approval” of its products under the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), an agency within the federal department of health, allowing for a significant increase in production.
The Brisbane-based and Toronto-listed company said on Monday that the approval covered coatings, automotive lubricants and the company’s graphene aluminium-ion batteries, and permitted total production of up to ten tonnes per annum of graphene powder.
CEO Craig Nicol said in a statement on Monday that the news would enable “the next phase of… commercial maturation to focus on developing, marketing, selling and producing [of] products.
“This is one of the first nanomaterials approved under the AICIS regulations which came into being on 1 July 2020 with significant revised nanomaterial chemical classification and introduction changes from the previous regulator scheme and is a credit to GMG’s technical staff in achieving this approval.”
Approval covers sales of targeted THERMAL-XR and G LUBRICANT to industrial customers in Australia and countries where no further international approvals are needed. Previously, only smaller volumes to a restricted customer list were permitted.
As well as the 10 tpa production limit of graphene powder, conditions include products being used in a professional setting (except for batteries which can also be sold to end consumers directly), an unspecified maximum percentage are allowed per each product type, and environmental compliance requirements.
