Applications open for manufacturing “Collaboration” grants worth $20 million to $200 million

Manufacturing News

Applications opened on Wednesday for the “Collaboration” stream of the federal government’s Modern Manufacturing Initiative, which offers grants between $20 million and $200 million to companies for “large, transformational projects.”

Industry minister Christian Porter said the federal government would, “co-invest in industry-led proposals that will transform our National Manufacturing Priority areas, by encouraging manufacturers to move up the value chain to higher value, higher margin activities, including drawing on our world class research.”

Grants can cover up to 33 per cent of a project’s total cost. Projects must have a focus on interstate or international trade, have a “minimum of $60.6 million in eligible project expenditure”, and involve business-to-business or business-to-research collaboration at their core.

Project lead companies must operate within six of the “National Manufacturing Priority” sectors (represented into the picture.) These are:

  • Resources technology and critical minerals processing;
  • Food and beverage;
  • Medical products;
  • Recycling and clean energy;
  • Defence; and
  • Space

Guidelines were released at the beginning of July for the stream, which — budgeted at $800 million — makes up the largest share of the MMI’s funding allocation.

Applications are open until September 9, 5:00 PM (AEST.)
