Organic waste recycling facilities move ahead in NSW and Victoria

Manufacturing News

Organic waste recycling facilities that turn food waste into agricultural products are gaining traction in Tamworth, NSW and Bendigo, Victoria.

The Organics Recycling Facility in Tamworth will be constructed by OREZ, part of the CFC Group of companies, Tamworth Mayor Russell Webb said.

“With a state-of-the-art Organics Recycling Facility in the region, we will provide a cost-effective service to the community and support local industry to meet their own business targets too” Webb said.

It can potentially process up to 10,000 tonnes of waste per annum.

The waste can be turned into agricultural products such as high-grade mulch and soil conditioner following processing.

Construction is slated to start in September 2025 and begin operation in early 2027.

In Victoria, Western Composting Technology has applied for a permit to construct a facility capable of recycling up to 30,000 tonnes of organic waste a year.

The facility is proposed for Huntly, a suburb in Bendigo.

Similar to the Tamworth facility, the collected waste would be recycled and pasteurised before being turned into compost for agricultural and domestic use.
