Brain scanning device company EMVision Medical Devices has announced the appointment of Carmel Monaghan as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
Announced on and effective on Thursday, Monaghan’s appointment brings “a wealth of experience across clinician engagement, corporate strategy, marketing, procurement and government relations” according to EMVision’s Chairman, John Keep.
Monaghan is described in the statement as an accomplished healthcare leader, being the Chief Executive Officer of private health operator Ramsay Healthcare Australia (ASX:RHC) since 2020, and having served as Ramsay’s Group Chief of Staff for its global operations and Group Head of Marketing and Public Affairs.
“After more than three decades in healthcare leadership, I’m especially drawn to opportunities where innovation directly addresses unmet patient needs,” Monaghan said on Thursday.
“Stroke and traumatic brain injury are leading causes of global disability and disease burden and will increase with an ageing population.
“Timely access to acute care and treatment are crucial in minimising the impact of stroke and so I’m excited by the transformative opportunity that EMVision’s point-of-care neurodiagnostic products represent to improve outcomes for patients.”
EMVision is developing a bedside brain scanner, named “emu”, and a smaller second-generation device for first responders.
Both machines aim to provide a much quicker “triage, transfer and treatment decisions” by health professionals, increasing the chance of a successful recovery from stroke.
