Seeley International cools Treasury Wine’s Barossa expansion

South Australian air conditioning and heating systems manufacturer Seeley International has completed its largest-ever installation of its innovative indirect evaporative air conditioning system, the Climate Wizard.

Seeley took to social media to reveal the completion of the project which cools a massive 30,000 square metre wine barrel hall just opened by Barossa Valley producer Treasury Wine Estates at their Bilyara winery.

TWE, in the news because of China’s imposition of anti-dumping tariffs, will consolidate its barrel storage in the vast facility, which is capable of holding over 100,000 barrels over its two buildings.

Seeley installed 24 Climate Wizard CW-80S units which deliver a supply air temperature of 12.5°C and provide 1060 kW of cooling.

These are coupled with Seeley’s Smart Controllers which maintain temperatures at 16°C and humidity at 70 per cent.

The Climate Wizard is the world’s first indirectly cooled evaporative air conditioning system – evaporative cooling normally acts directly on incoming air – achieving far lower cooling temperatures and increasing humidity.

Seeley claims the Adelaide-manufactured systems have benefits including:

  • Temperature and humidity-controlled Cask Hall to promote premium and repeatable wine maturation
  • Minimise “angel’s share” evaporation from the barrels. This means less top up and less labour
  • Low energy usage, over 2,000,000 kWh in energy saving compared to chiller system
  • And low electricity demand requirements, 240kW vs. approx. 465 kW for refrigerated systems.
