Sun Cable diversifies to supply Tivan mineral processing business

Sun Cable, which is developing a proposal to supply renewably generated electricity from the Norther Territory to Singapore via undersea cable, has diversified its business offering with an agreement to supply energy to mining group Tivan Ltd.

Tivan is progressing development of its Mount Peake vanadium-titanium-iron project project in the Northern Territory.

Utilising its 100 percent owned TIVAN Process, the company is planning to produce three high-value, high-purity products – vanadium pentoxide electrolyte, titanium dioxide pigment and iron oxide.

Tivan has signed a letter of intent with Sun Cable subsidiary AAPowerlink Australia Assets for the supply of 200 to 300 MW of renewable electricity to supply the proposed Tivan processing facility at the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct.

Sun Cable has previously said up to 800 MW of solar generated power would be available for users in Darwin.

The parties will together develop an indicative energy supply to the Tivan facility in the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct in Darwin which will process ores from Mt Peake.

Sun Cable CEO David Griffin said: “The provision of 24/7 dispatchable electricity can underpin industrial processes, enabling a new wave of green industrial development.”

The supply of energy is subject to the parties subsequently agreeing and executing a formal power purchase agreement.

Tivan Executive Chairman Grant Wilson said the company’s board is fully committed to sustainability principles.

Wilson said: “By partnering with Sun Cable, we are endorsing and facilitating the the proposed provision of large-scale renewable energy to the (Middle Arm Sustainable Development) Precinct.”
