Titomic announces Microsoft HoloLens-based AR option for repairing with cold spray

Defence

Cold spray additive manufacturing business Titomic has announced a new augmented reality software option for its low-pressure machines, which it will showcase at a military expo next week.

In a statement on Wednesday, the company said the AR enhancement will work with its portable D523 spray units, and use Microsoft HoloLens technology “to display real-time system data, like temperature and system settings, and optimise repair parameters.”

Titomic said that pre-set parameters will be offered for “common repair tasks like wheel and landing gear maintenance”.

The AR optional add-on will feature at the Association of the US Army (AUSA) event in Washington, which will run October 14 to 16.

The company’s D523 units have seen increased interest from defence customers, and Titomic announced a sale of ten units to the Royal Netherlands Army – at a total value of $1.28 million at the time – in March.

Its low-pressure machines are also in use by aerospace, manufacturing, and oil and gas customers.

The machines are used for repair and coating, and are able to repair metal components by blasting them with metal powders, without the use of heat.
