Australian-German quantum computing hardware company Quantum Brilliance<\/a> has announced former IBM executive <\/span>Mark Mattingley-Scott as its new European managing director.<\/span><\/p>\n Mattingley-Scott was most recently Quantum Ambassador for EMEA and Asia-Pacific team at IBM, where he had a 31-year career.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI joined the Quantum Brilliance team to help fulfill the company\u2019s vision of making quantum computing an everyday, useful technology,\u201d said Mattingley-Scott in a statement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p> \u201cEurope has much to gain from a robust quantum industry, and the addition of a highly disruptive technology such as quantum accelerators will have a major\u00a0<\/a><\/span>influence on its growth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Mattingley Scott — who is also a senior member of the IEEE and a member of the IEEE European Public Policy Committee — will be based out of Stuttgart and build a local engineering and R&D team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The foundational science behind Quantum Brilliance\u2019s technology has its origins at Stuttgart University\u2019s Centre for Applied Quantum Technology, the company said. <\/span><\/p> Its Australian team includes its CEO and chief scientific officers, both physicists from the Australian National University.<\/span><\/p>\n Quantum Brilliance uses synthetic diamonds to create mini-quantum computers, which it says will operate at room temperature. The company announced in March<\/a> that it is installing one of its quantum accelerator units at Perth\u2019s <\/span>Pawsey Supercomputing Centre.<\/span><\/p>\n Picture: Quantum Brilliance<\/p>\n
