{"id":52677,"date":"2022-07-05T07:40:12","date_gmt":"2022-07-04T22:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aumanufacturing.com.au\/?p=52677"},"modified":"2022-07-05T09:59:04","modified_gmt":"2022-07-05T00:29:04","slug":"orbital-heads-for-loss-on-boeing-woes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aumanufacturing.com.au\/orbital-heads-for-loss-on-boeing-woes","title":{"rendered":"Orbital heads for loss on Boeing woes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Perth unmanned aerial vehicle engine manufacturer Orbital UAV is heading for a loss of around $7 million for FY22 due to issues with its dominant customer, Boeing subsidiary Insitu.<\/p>\n<p>Orbital <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aumanufacturing.com.au\/engine-blowback-hits-from-boeing-hits-orbital-uav\">revealed in February<\/a> that Insitu had terminated its third engine program under its long term supply agreement with Insitu.<\/p>\n<p>Production volumes for the two engine types the company already manufacturers for Insitu were unchanged.<\/p><div class=\"wooco-content\" id=\"wooco-568828825\"><div style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"wooco-60705045\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/page.spee3d.com\/download-spee3d-heavy-industry-whitepaper?utm_campaign=Au%20Manufacturing%20Lead%20Gen%202024&#038;utm_source=AuManufacturing_campaign_1\" class=\"adv-link\" aria-label=\"SPEE3D_BannerAds-468&#215;60\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aumanufacturing.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/SPEE3D_BannerAds-468x60-1.png\" alt=\"\"  srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aumanufacturing.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/SPEE3D_BannerAds-468x60-1.png 468w, https:\/\/www.aumanufacturing.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/SPEE3D_BannerAds-468x60-1-300x38.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px\" width=\"468\" height=\"60\"  style=\"display: inline-block; max-width: 100%; height: auto;\" \/><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Now Orbital has told investors that the Insitu move has impacted:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The transition of production activities for the second Boeing Insitu engine model from the USA to Australia<\/li>\n<li>And reduced income via the company&#8217;s WA government loan offsets that were linked to the achievement of milestones related to Insitu programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Insitu is also contesting Orbital&#8217;s claim for $1.8 million in costs incurred in the development of the third engine program.<\/p>\n<p>Orbital is pursuing the full recovery of the amount claimed.<\/p><div class=\"wooco-in-content-after-par-6\" id=\"wooco-2036223788\"><div style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"wooco-525891625\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sew-eurodrive.com.au\/home.html\" class=\"adv-link\" aria-label=\"Auman_Second ad within content_Quality, Service+Delivery\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aumanufacturing.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Auman_Second-ad-within-content_Quality-ServiceDelivery-e1713733941954.jpg\" alt=\"\"  width=\"468\" height=\"60\"  style=\"display: inline-block; max-width: 100%; height: auto;\" \/><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<p>The company expects unaudited revenues of $19 million for FY22 and a net loss of $7 million.<\/p>\n<p>Orbital has arranged an unsecured standby working capital facility of $1 million from shareholder UIL Limited to support its working capital position.<\/p>\n<p>Orbital has long recognised the perils of its heavy reliance on Boeing, and has embarked on a campaign to attract new engine customers.<\/p>\n<p>This has seen it win new engine development contracts with US Navy supplier Skyways, Textron Systems, Anduril Industries and a Singaporean defence industry customer.<\/p>\n<p>Orbital said: &#8220;Each engine development represents mid-term growth opportunities and demonstrates the growing reputation Orbital UAV has built within the global uncrewed defence aerospace market that continues to present a positive outlook.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;Orbital UAV is confident that current engine development relationships have the potential to graduate to multi-year engine production contracts with significant opportunity for future revenue and profit growth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Late last year the company announced an expansion of its Balcatta, Perth factory following award of a $195,000 defence global competitiveness grant.<\/p>\n<p>Picture: Orbital UAV<\/p>\n<p><b>Subscribe to our free\u00a0<em>@AuManufacturing<\/em>\u00a0newsletter\u00a0<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aumanufacturing.com.au\/subscribe\"><b>here<\/b><\/a><b>.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Perth unmanned aerial vehicle engine manufacturer Orbital UAV is heading for a loss of around $7 million for FY22 due to issues with its dominant customer, Boeing subsidiary Insitu.
