2020 WorldSkills tradie competition to be held August 13 – 15 in Perth

More than 500 competitors and 20,000 visitors are expected to attend the WorldSkills Australia National Championships, which have been announced for August 13 – 15 at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre next year.

The national vocational and educational training (VET) competition will feature as many as 60 skills categories. It is held in conjunction with the SkillsWest Career Expo and the free event will link apprentices, trainees, educators, employers and industry professionals.

“The event will also put our most talented apprentices and trainees in the national spotlight,” WA education and training minister Sue Ellery announced on Tuesday.

“School students will also have the opportunity to see firsthand the enormous array of careers available in the VET sector and the skill and impact of various job roles. They will also have an opportunity to try a skill as well.”

The last time the event was held in Perth was 2014.

Medallists will have the chance to join the Australian Skill Squad at the September 2021 WorldSkills International Competition, to be held in Shanghai.
