VRA assembles SPIKE Guided Missile Integration Kits

Varley Rafael Australia has begun local production of the SPIKE Guided Missile Integration Kits (SIKs) – the first time the Israeli company Rafael has conducted assembly operations overseas.

The kits, which will be integrated into the LAND400-2 Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles, make up the launcher and missile control elements of the SPIKE missile.

VRA, a venture between Australian engineering firm Varley and Rafael Advanced Defense (sic) Systems, undertook extensive Technology Transfer activities utilising live video connectivity and 3D instructional software with RAFAEL’s subject matter experts.

Covid restrictions stopped VRA’s personnel from travelling to Israel for training.

VRA is now undertaking quality assurance, first article inspection and low rate initial production activities leading to full approval by RAFAEL.

VRA’s CEO Jacob Blitman said: “Being an Australian joint venture…provides VRA with direct access and licences to highly advanced guided missiles and their extensive associated systems’ transfer of technology.

“This is a small but critical step demonstrating real sovereign capability within the guided weapons and explosive ordnance (GWEO) space fully aligned with Government’s GWEO Enterprise approach.”

VRA received SIC-P funding provided by federal government that supported upskilling and acquisition of specialised tools and equipment for the project.
