Regional councils court food manufacturer investment with new online directory

Manufacturing News

Rural Councils Victoria has launched an online resource inviting food and beverage industry manufacturers to look outside of regional and metro areas for their expansion plans.

According to Mary-Ann Brown — chair of the group representing the state’s 38 rural LGAs — rural locations offer benefits for owners and employees that are unmatched elsewhere.

Brown declared rural areas “open for business”, and cited Australian Bureau of Statistics figures showing 38 per cent of the state’s growth in food and beverage was concentrated there.

“With Melburnians continuing to leave the city for a better way of life, rural Victoria also offers workers and their families a wide variety of lifestyle choices, amenities and access to the range of services they need.” she said.

“The new website showcases opportunities for businesses across rural Victoria and provides the contact details of knowledgeable Council employees for businesses to follow up with.”

The new resource comes with a collection of location, type (land, greenfield, brownfield), value and other information. It can be viewed here.
