Rocketry, high-temperature composites, green economy manufacturing among $62 million ITRP round

Approximately $62 million has been awarded across 13 new Training Centres and Research Hubs through the Australian Research Council’s Industrial Transformation Research Program (ITRP.)

According to a statement from ARC on Tuesday, the funding will help “drive innovative research to advance Australian industry and research capability.”

Six Industrial Transformation Research Hubs were funded, including:

• $3,693,326 for the ARC Research Hub for Australian Mass Manufacturing of High Temperature Composites, led by University of Queensland Associate Professor Michael Heitzmann;
• $4,000,000 for the ARC Research Hub for Critical Energy Separation Materials, led by Monash University Professor Matthew Hill; and
• $4,750,000 for the ARC Research Hub for Intelligent Contaminant-Sensing in complex Environments (IC-SensE Hub), led by RMIT University Professor Sumeet Walia.

Funding for seven new Industrial Transformation Training Centres included: 

• $4,841,000 for the ARC Training Centre in Sustainable and Green Economy Manufacturing, led by Monash’s Professor Philip Chan;
• $5,000,000 for the ARC Training Centre for High-Speed Propulsion, Rocket and Launch Systems, led by University of Sydney Professor Matthew Cleary; and
• $4,907,000 for the ARC Training Centre in Sustainable Materials and Responsible Technologies for Packaging (SMaRT-Pack), headed by Monash’s Professor Gil Garnier.

ARC CEO Professor Ute Roessner added: “Bringing together leading Australian researchers and key industry partners, the newly funded Training Centres and Hubs will cultivate the next generation of industry-focused researchers to address current and emerging challenges”.
