The Queensland government has secured the rights to host the AusBiotech International Conference in 2026 and 2027, making the announcement at this year’s event at Melbourne on Thursday.
Deputy premier Jarrod Bleijie said at the AusBiotech 2025 International Conference that the events would be held on the Gold Coast in 2026 and in Brisbane in 2027, adding that the AusBioInvest conference will debut in the state.
“Biomedical is a priority industry for the [state government] – and hosting the AusBiotech International Conference and AusBioInvest will help us showcase our strengths, attract global investment, strengthen our international partnerships, and grow our sovereign capability,” Bleijie said.
“In the lead up to the 2032 Games and beyond, Queensland is the place to do business and we want as many biomedical industry leaders to bring their skills, staff and products to our State.
The statement also promoted the new $180.6 million Sovereign Industry Development Fund (SIDF) and “re-focused State Development priorities” of the Queensland government, which was elected a year ago.
These three are Defence, Biomedical and Biofuels, which replaced 11 priority areas, “including non-viable industries”, according to the release.
This year's event runs from October 21 to Friday, and is hosted by the life sciences peak body, AusBiotech. The week-long event is billed “Australia's largest Life Sciences Conference”.
