ABT completes brake delivery for Hawkeye

Defence

Fail-safe vehicle braking systems manufacturer Advanced Braking Technology has delivered all 1,100 hill hold brake systems to cover the initial requirements for the Hawkei protected mobility vehicles that Thales is building for the army under the LAND 121 project.

The milestones marks the completion of the Perth company’s first major defence project, giving it the ability to engage with other international customers, according to announcement.

ABT is best known for its fully sealed fail-safe brakes which are used extensively in the mining and construction sectors, as well as being modified for use in dusty conditions on vehicles such as the Toyota Land Cruiser.

“The hill hold system designed by ABT for the Hawkei is a secondary safety system that provides additional capability to the vehicle’s incumbent brakes allowing it to meet stringent gradient parking requirements.

The ABT hill hold brake solution is present on all ADF supplied Hawkei vehicles and will continue to be installed on future deliveries, with ABT providing spare part and engineering support for the life of the programme.”

Hawkei is a 7-tonne, 4×4 with a 3-tonne payload.

ABT was awarded a $240,000 Defence Global Competitiveness grant to buy machinery, internal training and ISO accreditation.
