Air Liquide to build CO2 production plant

Air Liquide is to build and operate a new CO2 purification and production plant to supply industry in Gippsland Victoria.

The company has come to an agreement with the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture, made up of BHP and Esso, to build the facility alongside the Longford Gas Conditioning plant which processes Bass Strait’s oil and gas resources.

Owned by Esso, the Longford plant will capture CO2 from its operations and supply it to Air Liquide for processing.

CO2 is used in a wide range of industries including food and beverage processing, desalination, hospital and medical industries, water treatment and metal fabrication.

Construction is expected to begin in Longford in 2021.

An Air Liquide managing director Marcos Etcheverrigaray said the agreement demonstrated a shared commitment to sustainability.

“It will help promote a supply of this ingredient which is vital for a great number of Australian customers.”
