Global surgical and protective glove manufacturer Ansell has recorded record sales and earnings growth in the first half with demand powered by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company said it was expecting to deliver growth of more than 20 per cent in earnings per share for the half as the pandemic boosted production volumes and allowed it to maintain product margins.
CEO Magnus Nicolin told investors: “We acknowledge we have seen record sales and earnings growth in F’21 H1 in what has been an extraordinary period where we have seen better than expected performance across all our strategic business units.”
Ansell has seen elevated demand across its surgical and examination gloves businesses as well as its life sciences and chemical protective clothing businesses.
Investing in increased production capacity at its own factories and in increasing efficiencies has also allowed the company to meet demand, where others in the industry have faced shortages.
Ansell does not manufacture in Australia and has not attracted the attention of federal government efforts to onshore production of other personal protective equipment such as surgical masks and ventilators.
