Archer in quantum deal with IBM

New materials technology developer Archer Materials has signed an agreement with computing giant IBM to advance their quantum computing ambitions.

The company, which is progressing development of a quantum computing chip, has joined the global IBM Q Network as an ‘ecosystem partner’.

Archer’s chip, known as the CQ qubit processor, will now utilise IBM’s open source software framework and tools, Qiskit, in its development.

This will allow any Archer product to be utilised in a wide quantum computing ecosystem.

Archer CEO Dr Mohammad Choucair said: “We are the first Australian company building a quantum chip to join into…a group of the very best organisations at the forefront of quantum computing.

“We want Australian businesses and consumers to be one of the first beneficiaries this exciting technology, and now with our collaborating with IBM, it greatly increases our chances of success.”

Quantum computer chips are the next stage of miniaturisation working at the sub-atomic level. They store and retrieve data according to the spin of electrons circling an atomic nucleus.
