The Queensland government extended its support of the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing (ARM) Hub by $7.2 million over four years in this week’s state budget.

The ARM Hub is a not-for-profit innovation initiative launched in 2020, helping link companies with researchers for robotics and software-related projects.

The funding would help it “continue its vital work in leading edge robotics for manufacturers,” according to a joint statement – mainly focussed on funding for water infrastructure projects – from premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, trade minister Cameron Dick, and manufacturing minister Glenn Butcher.

“This ARM Hub had a stellar year, it celebrated its third birthday and even helped a local startup manufacturer send their product into space – the sky isn’t the limit, it’s just the start for Queensland manufacturers.”

ARM Hub CEO Cori Stewart posted on Linkedin that, “I am thrilled ARM Hub has received ongoing support for its services building Australia’s sovereign technology and manufacturing capability.

“We are working with our clients, communities and stakeholders on the most important challenges for Australia in energy transition, defence capability, health & medical sectors, and more.”

The joint statement from the Queensland government on Tuesday added that the Made in Queensland grant program would continue, adding to $32.2 million in matched funding already allocated to the state’s manufacturers, “helping with new technology adoption, international competitiveness, productivity and innovation.”

The state budget delivered on Wednesday included a record surplus of $17 billion, driven by elevated coal prices which boosted government revenues by $10 billion versus estimates made 12 months ago.
