Austal to maintain US Navy ships in Australia

Perth global shipbuilder Austal has signed an agreement with the United States Navy which will see its Henderson shipyard (pictured) conduct repairs and sustainment activities on USN and Military Sealift Command ships.

The company’s Agreement of Boat Repair announced today will see the company provide support services for USN ships built by Austal at its Alabama shipyard and those of other manufacturers.

These include Austal’s Independence class Littoral Combat Ships (LCSs) and Spearhead class Expeditionary Fast Transport (EPF) vessels which may be deployed in our region.

Austal chief executive David Singleton said: “With this approval, Austal can provide a range of vessel repairs, maintenance and in-service support to the USN and MSC ships operating throughout South East Asia.

“As the designer and builder, no-one knows the Independence class or Spearhead class EPFs better than us.”

Austal has delivered 10 LCS’s and 11 EPFs to the US Navy and is contracted to build 12 further warships.
