Bisalloy and SMETEC team up for armoured steels

Specialty steel manufacturer Bisalloy Steels has deepened its relationship with Shoalhaven based SME and family owned SMETEC Services to processed armoured steels for military uses.

The two companies have been collaborating for two years, but have now signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

Bisalloy will supply its high strength and high hardness quenched and tempered armour steel, while SMETEC will deliver highly specialised waterjet cutting services.

SMETEC recently achieved certification from the German government to cut armour steel for German-based Rheinmetall which is supplying its Boxer 8×8 combat reconnaissance vehicle to the Australian army.

This certification makes SMETEC the first Australian company to achieve Bundeswehr WTD91 approval for cutting of armour grade steel to the German Army’s TL2350-0000 standards.

SMETEC’s managing director Tim Smeets said: “Bisalloy produces a world-class armour grade steel, and SMETEC has the capabilities to process it.

“…We are now well-positioned to support Australia’s sovereign defence capability requirements, while also looking to expand into global supply chains.”

BISALLOY Armour steel is used in numerous Australian and overseas armoured vehicles, including the Thales Bushmaster produced in Bendigo.
