Primary steel maker BlueScope is fast approaching its 100th anniversary of steel making at Port Kembla in New South Wales.
And according to the company: “We are planning to give our number 6 blast furnace a billion dollar birthday by relining and upgrading this asset to be best in class ironmaking facility.
“This includes over $100 million in environmental improvements.”
The company released a video (below) that explains how the investment does not lock it into old steel making technology for the next two decades, instead it underpinned the sovereign capability of steelmaking in Australia by building a bridge to lower emissions technology.
BlueScope has a goal of being net zero by 2050.
