Semiconductor technology developer BluGlass (ASX: BLG) will collaborate with California-based LED lighting innovator Luminus to develop cascade LEDs for the entertainment, projector and display sectors.
Luminus is a leader in industrial, medical, horticultural and entertainment lighting, while BluGlass is commercialising its remote plasma chemical vapour deposition (RPCVD) technology.
PRCVD technology can be used for the production of high efficiency devices such as light emitting diodes (LEDs), power electronics and concentrated solar cells.
BluGlass’s cascade LEDs will be co-developed by the partners for LED projector lighting, which requite high performance LEDs.
The company’s cascade LEDs operate at a lower current density that typical LEDs, avoiding efficiency droop and performance loss.
BluGlass CEO Giles Bourne sdaid: “BluGlass is continuing to work with the world’s leading innovators, that are developing the next generation of lighting technologies in high-growth, high value markets.
“We are excited to announce this collaboration with Luminus to further develop the unique advantages of RPCVD tunnel junctions for projection applications.
“This market represents a strong fit for our unique technology”.
BluGlass recently announced it will manufacture GaN Laser Diodes in Sydney.
