Bombora to deliver wave power in Spain

Perth wave power manufacturer Bombora Wave Power is to install a wave power station at Lanzarote, a remote island in Spain’s Canary Islands.

The company has advertised for an experienced engineer to handle procurement and construction of the project, which will deliver the grid connected wave energy system.

The company’s submerged nWave, wave enegy converter will be used initially to deliver 2.0MW of capacity which will feed into an existing system largely powered by diesel generators.

Bombora said in a statement that the Lanzarote wave park was one of a number it was developing as part of a global project portfolio.

The company is close to completing a 1.5 MW mWave ‘product validation project’ in Walers.

The mWave system involves a membrane style wave energy converter which is located 10 metres below the ocean’s surface. The membranes ‘deflect pumping air through a turbine to generate electricity.’
