Brisbane releases video footage of planned Volgren electric bus

Brisbane City Council plans to introduce a new fleet of 60 high-capacity electric Metro buses manufactured in the Queensland capital.

The contract is with vehicle manufacturer HESS in partnership with Volgren, which makes buses in Queensland, and electric infrastructure provider ABB.

Initially the partners will build a prototype rdeady for testing in 2020, with the order for the remaining 59 to follow testing and trial.

The council has just released a video of the new buses equipped with batteries and flash charging capable of recharging in six minutes (below).

Each Metro vehicle will be 24.4 metres in length and 2.55 metres wide, with the capacity to carry 150 passengers in comfort and 180 passengers in event mode.

Other key features of the Metro vehicle include low-floor design from front to rear, in-built USB charging points and on-board WiFi passenger information displays.

Should the council proceed with the order, electric bus services are expected to begin in 2023.
