Britton Maritime wins $9 million boat contract

Manufacturing News

Sydney’s Britton Maritime Systems will supply 12 Gemini inflatable sea boats (pictured) for Australia’s new ‘evolved’ Cape Class patrol boats as part of a $9 million defence contract.

The Gemini originates with Gemini Marine South Africa, however defence industry minister Melissa Price said $6 million would be spent locally.

She said: “This project will have up to 68 per cent Australian industry content, delivering a significant boost for our defence industry.”

The boats feature a monocoque hull and tubes made from military grade fabric.

They provide ‘an insertion capability for boarding and landing parties’ according to the government

Geminis are already mounted on existing Cape Class vessels, with six new vessels under construction at the Austal shipyard in Perth to be equipped with two boats each.

Britton Maritime Systems was established in 1987 specialising in the manufacture, maintenance and integration of military, law enforcement and commercial craft.
