Coca Cola Amatil has signed a heads of agreement with waste processor Veolia to explore opportunities to build a recycled plastics processing plant in Australia.
The plant would reprocess PET bottles, which is already being reused as a raw material to make products such as carpet tiles.
CCA has already moved to manufacture smaller bottles used to bottle Coca Cola from recycled materials.
Coca-Cola Amatil’s Group Managing Director Ms Alison Watkins said Amatil and Veolia had established a joint project team to consider a potential plant’s economic feasibility, size, scale and location.
Veolia ANZ CEO Danny Conlon said: “This important initiative…comes at a critical time for Australia where we need to be doing more to resolve ongoing issues around plastics and their potential to be recycled.”
