US-based outdoor equipment company Clarus Corporation has acquired TRED Outdoors from Venlo Holdings, with TRED products to remain made in Australia.

TRED was established in 2012 in Brisbane, and manufactures off-road and camping equipment, including the TRED recovery board (pictured.)

According to a statement on Monday from Salt Lake, Utah-headquartered Clarus, the transaction includes “a combination of cash, stock and future consideration based on TRED’s performance.” TRED will join Clarus’s adventure products category, but continue to “operate independently as a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary”.

“As part of the Clarus portfolio of incredible brands, TRED is now poised to become a global powerhouse, while remaining a proudly Australian made product, supported by the same team behind the brand for more than a decade,” said Ty Hermans, Managing Director of Venlo Holdings, in a statement.

“We are excited about the next phase in the journey and a strong and enduring partnership supporting product development and ongoing manufacturing from our Brisbane factory, in service to TRED and the broader Clarus portfolio for many years to come.”

According to its website, the Venlo group currently employs 330. Its brands vary from contract product developer and manufacturer Evolve Group to swimming pool business Plungie.

Clarus is Nasdaq-listed and reported sales of $US 448.1 million in the 2022 financial year.

Among its brands is Rhino-Rack, a vehicle accessory company established in Australia which Clarus acquired in 2021 for $255 million.

Warren Kanders, Executive Chairman of Clarus, said of the TRED acquisiton: “This transaction highlights our continued focus on identifying sought-after brands within the Adventure segment that both enhance our offering to existing retail customers and expand our reach into new and larger channels.”
