Manufacturing News

CleanSpace Technology’s healthcare respirator, CleanSpace HALO, has received a prestigious Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the Product Design category in recognition of outstanding design and innovation.

The Good Design Awards Jury said of the HALO: “An important innovation in the current climate, the design’s adaptability to full and half face mask is a clever element.

“Aesthetically the design brings together a high level of functionality in a minimal and comfortable package.

“Overall, this is a really impressive example of design and engineering and a standout project that ticks every box for good design in this category.”

The Sydney company’s win was announced during the 2021 Good Design Awards Week. The Good Design Awards are the highest honour for design and innovation in the country and reward projects across 12 design disciplines and 30 subcategories.

CleanSpace HALO is the only TGA registered Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) system that offers the highest level of protection for frontline workers.

The reusable system is ultra light, easy to use and fast to don. The design has eliminated bulky belt mounted battery packs and cumbersome hoses.

With consultation of healthcare professionals and a deep experience in medical devices development, the biomedical engineers from CleanSpace Technology commercialised a mask with few parts which delivers fresh, filtered air throughout their shift.

CleanSpace HALO, with positive pressure and HEPA filters, offers 40 times higher protection than the N95 mask.

CleanSpace Technology CEO Dr Alex Birrell said: “We are honoured to receive this award. Our team including our talented ex-ResMed biomedical engineers, have a vision to change the way the world thinks about respiratory protection.

CleanSpace HALO is used in close to a thousand hospitals globally as frontline defence during COVID-19 outbreaks.
