Covid home baking boom brings new flour products from McKenzie’s

Manufacturing News

Cooking and baking ingredients manufacturer Ward McKenzie Pty Ltd has responded to a Covid-19 surge in home baking with the launch this month of a range of seven new flours including special purpose flour blends.

The company, best known for its McKenzie’s baking powder and bi-carbonate of soda seen in almost every pantry, is now offering cooks easier ways to make specialty products with bread and pizza flour, cake flour, cookie flour and pancake flour among others.

Bread and pizza flour, for example, combines plain, oat and wholemeal spelt which add protein and fibre.

Cookie flour is a blend of chick pea, plain and oat flour, while pancake flour includes plain, oat and rice flour.

The company has also expanded its range of single ‘alternative’ flours with new almond flour, brown rice flour and yellow pea flour.

McKenzie’s marketing manager Bianca Piscopo said: “We are proud to be able to offer such a large variety of flours to consumers and inspire them to experiment in the kitchen and unlock the power of alternative flours.”

Australian-owned McKenzie’s, founded in 1852, also manufactures and exports pulses and grains, baking aids, coconut products, herbs and spices, cooking nuts and Ward’s effervescent drinks.

The company says about its products: “As the world moves faster, there’s pleasure to be found in simple and delicious home cooking, where food is made from scratch and with love.”

McKenzie’s new products are now available from Woolworths supermarkets.

As a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant, McKenzie’s Foods is replacing, reducing and reusing soft plastics, which are difficult to recycle.
