The federal government has released a request for proposal, with successful companies to receive support delivering an artificial intelligence-based demonstrator technology to defence.

The new initiative was announced by defence industry minister Melissa Price on Monday, with $10 million in funding to “new opportunities for Australia’s AI sector to partner with Defence.”

“Genuine partnerships between Defence and Australian industry allows us to develop globally competitive AI capabilities and builds a national defence industry base,” said Price.

“Through this initiative, we are building a strong Australian defence industry with an ability to design and integrate AI technology into Defence’s force structure.”

The program between the Defence Innovation Hub and Defence AI Centre is seeking proposals advancing intelligence mission data or virtual reality/graphics applications “within the capability theme of AI.”

The request for proposals is open until February 11, 2021. Further information can be seen here.
