Ego Pharmaceuticals moves to recyclable plastic for tube products

Manufacturing News

Skincare company Ego Pharmaceuticals aims to save 18 tonnes of packaging waste from landfill annually by switching to recyclable low-density polyethylene (LDPE) for its QV Skincare brand tube products.

In a statement on Monday marking National Recycling Week, the company said the transition from laminate for the packaging was already underway, with “a mix of QV tube products” for Australian, Asian and Middle Eastern customers already adopting LDPE.

The remaining applicable products will follow over the next 12 months, “dependant on production timing”, added Ego.

“This project has been two years in the making, and has involved extensive production and stability trials for key products,” said the company’s Packaging Projects & Studio Manager, Simone Thomassen.

“This meticulous approach ensures that the transition to LDPE packaging maintains the high standards of product quality that consumers expect from the QV brand.”

It worked with western Sydney-based squeeze tube maker Impact International on the project.

Ego was established in 1953 by Gerald Oppenheim, a dermatologist’s son, and his wife Rae. It remains Australian-owned, produces over 120 different products, and manufactures at Dandenong South in Victoria.
