Eighth new mast fitted to an Anzac frigate

Defence

HMAS Parramatta – the final ship in the Anzac Midlife Capability Assurance Program (AMCAP) – recently had its new mast installed, as an 8-year upgrade programme for the Royal Australian Navy vessels nears completion.

The new mast is the eighth to be manufactured by by BAE Systems Australia at its Henderson shipyard in Perth, through the Warship Asset Management Agreement alliance.

As with the previous AMCAP upgrades, the mast will accommodate the CEA Technologies radar system.

The system includes CEA’s CEAFAR phased array radar and CEAMOUNT missile illuminator technology to significantly enhance the self-defence of the Anzac frigates against modern anti-ship missiles.

The mast was lifted by a team of crane operators, riggers, fitters, superintendents, and a mechanical supervisor.

It will now take around a month to complete the installation before sea trials and a return to service during 2025.
