eLumina, which plans to begin production of large-scale lithium batteries and electric vehicle chargers, officially opened its Yatala, Gold Coast factory on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the company – which had planned to launch the site in August – the $20 million factory is “set to produce 300 batteries and EV chargers a year”, with assembly of its first product scheduled for 2025.
The company said it has partnered with TAFE Queensland “to support the training and pathways” into the roles required as it expands.
eLumina’s website lists products including a D1 “All-in-One Ultra-Fast” charger for EVs, with a maximum output of 160-kilowatt, another fast charger named D2, and a series of LFP chemistry-based battery energy storage systems for industrial and business use — as well as a 12-volt model — featuring battery management systems and energy management systems developed by the company.
“We’re proud to be contributing to Australia’s energy future through pushing the dial forward on battery storage to secure Australia’s energy future and support the transition to net-zero,” said eLumina CEO Lisa Marsh.
Marsh added that she hoped the company will outgrow the factory, with a goal “for our next factory to be three times the size with the potential to employ up to 300 people directly and support many more.”
The company announced that it had been selected by the NRMA to install the D1 chargers across Australia in May. It debuted at the Mobility LIVE Australia expo in October last year.
