Ellume factory to expand to produce Covid-19 diagnostic tests

Brisbane diagnostics company Ellume will expand its manufacturing facility following a strategic investment from the state government’s Essential Goods and Supply Chain Programme.

The company, which has developed a suite of COVID-19 tests that give results in less than 15 minutes, will back installation of multiple state-of-the-art automated production lines to speed up and enhance production capability.

The plant, already the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, is on-track to ship over 100,000 tests per day from next month, with delivery of 20 million Ellume COVID-19 tests planned for the first half of 2021.

In November @AuManufacturing revealed automation equipment manufacturer Bosch Australia Manufacturing Solutions (BAMS) would work with Ellume to automate the high volume production of its COVID-19 diagnostic test.

Now the government investment will enable the company to onshore and upscale as much of the critical component manufacturing into Queensland as is practicable.

Ellume CEO Dr Sean Parsons said: “Our technology is world class and the State Government’s investment boost will mean we can take our ground-breaking COVID-19 tests to the world”.

He said the project was expected to support over 500 jobs when fully operational.
