Ellume test kits roll off new US production line – video

Instant Covid-19 test kits from Australian manufacturer Ellume are rolling off the assembly line at a diagnostics manufacturing facility in Maryland in the United States, representing a major milestone for Australian manufacturing.

While the Brisbane company is rapidly increasing production to meet a $US230 million contract from the United States Department of Defense, the US factory itself was engineered and designed in Australia.

The world-class 180,000 square foot facility has the capacity to produce approximately 15 million COVID-19 Home Tests per month and will ultimately create 1,500 new jobs.

Melbourne’s Bosch Australia Manufacturing Solutions designed and built the numerous production lines, integrating robotic production equipment at the Maryland facility as well as for Ellume’s Richlands plant in Queensland.

The Ellume Covid-19 test is a rapid, lateral flow antigen test, a type of test that runs a liquid sample along a surface with reactive molecules.
