Data connectivity developer Elsight has broken into the drone parcel delivery market with a contract to provide hardware and software to leading US unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) services provider DroneUp LLC.

Elsight, a maker of equipment for real-time data, video and audio transmission over cellular networks, has received and delivered its first commercial order to be used in the drone delivery market, including for retailer Walmart.

Walmart is an investor in DroneUp and has has announced multi-site commercial parcel delivery operations, utilising its Delivery on the Fly brand.

Elsight’s Halo solutions will support DroneUp’s initial fleet of parcel delivery drones by providing end to end linking with all communication technologies.

Elsight said in an announcement: “Halo provides DroneUp with a robust connectivity solution for command and control redundancy certification, critical and secure data transmission, and uninterrupted connectivity.

“DroneUp’s commercial order validates Elsight’s potential for growth within the fast-developing drone industry.”

The Australian technology is critical to the operation of drones beyond the visual line of sight.

Equipment will be installed in DroneUp’s field drone hub and the DroneUp control centre, with the order coming with recurring income through its use of the Elsight cloud and SIM card services.
