Defence

Brisbane communications system manufacturer EM Solutions has announced new orders worth $8.5 million and success in its role as part of a Lockheed Martin Australia led group named as preferred tenderer to deliver on a new Australian defence satellite communication system.

EM Solutions, part of the Electro Optic Systems group, received three new defence systems orders:

  • An additional order from a European NATY country for King Cobra Satellite Communication Terminals
  • Orders for Cobra terminals for use by the Royal Australian Navy
  • And orders for radio frequency components from US and European defence prime contractors.

Cobra provides users with access to both MEO (mid earth orbit) and GEO (geostationary orbit) satellites in multiple military and commercial bands, and from rapidly manoeuvring platforms such as fast naval vessels.

“These orders are expected to support growth of EM Solutions in 2023 and 2024.

The company revealed that it was part of the LMA team selected as preferred for a new Australian Defence satellite communication system, through Joint Project 9102 Phase 1.

The multi-billion dollar JP9102 project will provide the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with a sovereign military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) system defined by its extensibility, agility and resilience.

EM Solutions expects revenue to flow from this project from 2025 onwards.
