Today’s inforgarphic, from Visual Capitalist, throws down the challenge to Australia for the 21st Century.
Will we ride this new bull wave for metals needed in the new economy simply by digging the stuff up and shipping it out?
Or will we use our natural advantages, skills and wealth as a nation to go up the value-adding scale?
If we sell llithium ore instead of lithium batteries we leave so much value for others to develop and exploit.
Each step we take in moving from ore towards finished product captures orders of magnitude more jobs, more skill development opportunities, more wealth. Each tonne of ore we export gifts that wealth to others.
Aren’t Australians always up for a challenge?
