Brisbane’s EM Solutions has secured a contract with the Australian Defence Force to provide equipment to modernise communications aboard Royal Australian Navy ships.

The company, a subsidiary of Electro Optic Systems, will supply equipment to modernise voice and data communications and information exchange capabilities for RAN vessels under the ADF’s Project SEA1442-5 requirement.

EM Solutions equipment is already fitted to RAN Anzac class frigates, including its Cobra terminals that allow uninterrupted satellite communications for ships, even in heavy seas.

Its core products are high-end, broadband radio receivers for satellite communications as well as satellite communications-on-the-move terminals.

According to a statement: “Under the contract, EM Solutions is expected to deliver and install systems on several Royal Australian Navy vessels, allowing legacy communications systems to be retired.

“The deliveries include terminals (including antenna), spares and related products and services.”

The value of the contract is initially $149.5 million with potential for further supply not exceeding $52.7 million up to a total value of $202.2 million.

The contract covers a seven year period from 2023 to final acceptance in 2030.
