Electro Optic Systems is to test fire a more lethal version of its remotely operated weapon station (RWS), the R600 Missile Carrier (R600MC, pictured) in December at the US Army’s Redstone Test Center in Alabama, according to a report by the authoritative Janes group.
EOS Defence USA will fire the R600S which adds four Javelin missiles, two in each missile pod, to a station that includes a 30×113 mm cannon and a M240B 7.62mm coaxial machine gun.
The prototype medium-calibre cannon RWS, developed in association with the Javelin Joint Venture, is now being fitted to an Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) to provide mechanised elements with the firepower to engage multiple armoured threats.
Javelin is in service with the US Army and US Marine Corps and numerous international customers as a medium-range, ‘fire-and-forget’ missile for use against a wide array of targets including armoured vehicles.
As reported in @AuManufacturing, EOS exhibited, for the first time, the R600MC in the static display area at a US military Industry Range Day event on Red Cloud Range, Fort Benning, Georgia, in July.
