Defence and communications manufacturer Electro Optic Systems has moved into the Middle East, inking a MOU leading to a joint venture with a local manufacturer to penetrate the region’s markets with its its remote weapons stations.

The region is already the biggest customer for the RWS with ‘a Middle East customer’ placing an order worth $450 million – the order is still in process of being delivered.

Now EOS Defence Systems has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Shielders Advanced Industries, a specialist in metal processor and fabricator based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This strategic agreement was formalised at the recent Ajban Defence Industry and Technology Exhibition in the UAE, with the companies to form a joint venture.

EOS will contribute its RWS design and production technology, while Shielders Advanced Industries will provide its manufacturing facilities, fabrication, and processing expertise.

The joint venture will initially focus on manufacturing the lightweight R150 RWS (pictured), with an emphasis on using local capabilities and a strong UAE sovereign supply chain.

Chief Executive Officer of EOS Dr Andreas Schwer said: “This joint venture not only strengthens our presence in the region but also aligns with our vision of delivering innovative and advanced defence solutions on a global scale.

“We look forward to leveraging our combined expertise to create a lasting impact on the UAE’s defence industry and contribute to its economic growth.”

EOS Defence Systems manufactures high-energy laser weapons, combat systems, systems for unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) and solutions for countering unmanned aerial systems (CUAS).
