EOS targets weapons systems sale to Ukraine

Canberra defence manufacturer Electro Optic Systems is in active negotiations to supply its remote weapon stations (RWS) and spare parts to Ukraine as it continues to resist Russian invasion.

The company confirmed in an investor update that the negotiations covered a ‘significant number’ of the systems which allow troops to operate weapons such as machine guns, cannon and missile launchers from inside the safety of an armoured vehicle.

According to EOS: “This includes opportunities for direct supply to Ukraine, and to other countries providing weapons to Ukraine.

“There is no certainty that any particular outcome or transaction will result from these discussions.”

It is not known which systems are being discussed, whether the company’s full size systems or the new, smaller and lightweight R150 RWS product (pictured) which is capable of being mounted on the back of a utility vehicle such as the Toyota Hilux.

However EOS did reveal that it had secured an initial order for the newly developed R150 RWS system as part of the L3Harris Vampire programme under which the United States is providing support for Ukraine.

“This order represents a significant validation of a new EOS product and may lead to substantial follow-on opportunities.

“The order is for less than $10 million and is expected to be completed in 2023.”

Meanwhile EOS has received a follow order for its heavyweight R600 systems from a customer in South East Asia.

The order is worth $15 million.
