EPA charges Benalla particle board maker over emission breaches

Monsbent, the owner of a particle board factory in Benalla, has had an additional 11 charges laid against it by Victoria’s EPA, bringing the number of charges to 18.

Monsbent is the parent company of D&R Henderson.

The EPA said that Monsbent breached a condition of its EPA licence — “a criminal offence under section 27(2) of the Environment Protection Act 1970” — in relation to air discharges at the D&R Henderson timber chipping factory. The release does not list any specifics about the emissions.

A director “has now also been charged with 18 offences related to the same allegations,” the EPA announced on Monday.

The case is scheduled to be heard at Benalla Magistrates Court on February 2, 2021.
