Adelaide-based dairy manufacturer The Yoghurt Shop has appointed former state transport minister Stephan Knoll to Chair its new advisory board, which the company says “signals our intent to take our South Australian-made yoghurt to even more corners of the world.”

In a statement on Thursday, the company said Knoll’s current roles include chairing some of the state’s “most recognisable family food businesses”.

His current responsibilities include Executive Chair of Barossa Fine Foods and Angelakis Brothers, Chair of the Mitani Group Advisory Board, and board membership of food and beverage industry body Food South Australia.

Knoll said, “The Yoghurt Shop is turning into one of SA’s great premium food businesses. It is exciting to come on board and be part of the next chapter as we build our global reputation and footprint.”

According to a profile in CityMag from 2019, founder and CEO Simon Reynolds began in 2003 with the intention of wholesaling yoghurt to vendors at the Adelaide Central Market. He ended up retailing yoghurt made under contract in Sydney, before eventually taking production inhouse.

The Yoghurt Shop now counts “over 150 million tubs of yoghurt” served and exports to “13 countries across the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific.”

The advisory board aims to help the company “strengthen our foundations, scale responsibly, and stay true to our purpose” according to the release.

“Our business is going through a period of huge growth, not just here at home but right across the country and the world,” added COO Brandon Reynolds.

“We look forward to welcoming other independent members of the board soon and getting down to the dirty work of growth in the South Australian food industry — not just for the benefit of my family, but for the family of people we employ right across Australia.”
