SA Water has partnered with micro-satellite producer Fleet Space Technologies to produce an IoT application that spans the Adelaide metropolitan area.
The SA Water Cooling the Community deployment Powered by Fleet (pictured) went live on Thursday.
The deployment allows the public to find out temperatures on the ground, and especially across Adelaide’s extensive parklands, in real-time.
It can be used to zero in on a particular park and find out its features, as well as to search for nearby drinking fountains and bottle filling stations.
Fleet CEO Flavia Tata Nardini took to social media to welcome the deployment.
“I am so proud of this project that it is very close to our heart.
“(It is) such a large scale deployment in metro and regional areas.”
Fleet manufactures its own satellites and ground stations.
The SA Water deployment is part of a larger campaign by the water utility of cooling Adelaide.
SA Water is working together with Adelaide airport to use water for cooling around the runway.
The trial has shown temperature reductions can reduce the cost of running cooling towers, and fuel used for aeroplanes to take off.
