Perth materials technology group FYI Resources (ASX: FYI) has received the major approvals it needs to roll out its strategy of producing high purity alumina from a mine and processing plant in Western Australia.
The company announced today it has received approval from the WA mines department for a mine and processing plant to exploit its Cadoux, WA kaolin resource.
The mine will feed a processing plant to be built at Kwinana south of Perth to produce 8,000 tonnes per annum of HPA over 25 years.
HPA is a high value, versatile material used in lithium-ion battery technologies as a coating for separators.
Managing director Roland Hill said FYI had only minor regulatory hurdles to jump before it could start the project.
Hill said: “FYI will continue progressing its HPA strategy in anticipation of arranging full project funding and a formal decision to mine from the FYI Board.”
