Heidelberg Materials Australia to acquire Midway Concrete

Heidelberg Materials Australia announced on Monday it has entered into a conditional purchase agreement to acquire Midway Concrete, expanding its presence in the Melbourne and Geelong markets.

Midway Concrete operates four plants in Laverton, Craigieburn, Melton and Lara, and has built a reputation for quality products and customer service over its 23-year history.

Phil Schacht, Chief Executive of Heidelberg Materials Australia, said the acquisition aligns with the company’s strategy of purchasing bolt-on assets that support its existing integrated positions in major markets.

“Midway’s proven track record over the last 20 years will be a valuable addition to Heidelberg Materials’ operations,” Schacht said.

Midway Concrete owners David and Sharon Boxshall reflected on their company’s growth from humble beginnings with just two trucks in Sunshine to becoming “one of Melbourne’s most trusted concrete suppliers.”

“We would personally like to thank all the Midway employees and customers for their friendship and support throughout the decades,” the Boxshalls said.

The proposed acquisition requires informal merger clearance from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission before proceeding. No jobs are expected to be affected by the transaction, which is anticipated to be completed by mid-2025.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Heidelberg Materials Australia, formerly known as Hanson Australia, is part of the global Heidelberg Materials Group, which operates in over 50 countries with approximately 51,000 employees across 3,000 production sites.
