The Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Perth has returned to the water following an upgrade to radar capabilities, communications systems, and crew areas marking the completion of a major part of the Anzac Midlife Capability Assurance Program.
The Anzac class frigate was in dry dock at the Australian Marine Complex at Henderson near Perth.
Undocking the 118 metres long, nearly 15 metres wide and weighing 3900 tonnes ship required meticulous management.
The Anzac Midlife Capability Assurance Program runs until 2023.
An earlier upgrade for the eight ANZAC vessels ended in 2017, and involved installation of a new phased array radar onto the platform and major engineering upgrades.
